Shipping and Tariff Update - Paula McNulty Designs

I wanted to share an update on international shipping and how tariffs are affecting my shop. As of September 2025, I’m currently shipping within the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland).

Here’s where things stand with tariffs that impact U.S. exports into these countries as of the date of this post:

  • Australia – Thankfully, no reciprocal tariffs have been imposed, so shipping here is straightforward.

  • New Zealand – I haven’t seen any retaliatory tariffs reported, which keeps things manageable.

  • Switzerland – At this time, Switzerland has not imposed reciprocal tariffs.

  • Japan – Japan has stated it doesn’t plan to retaliate with tariffs against U.S. goods, which is good news.

  • Canada – Canada did impose 25% retaliatory tariffs earlier this year, but as of September 1, 2025, most of those have been lifted under USMCA rules. A few categories, like steel, aluminum, and autos, may still carry tariffs, but most goods now move tariff-free again.

  • United Kingdom - No extra tariffs. I can ship to the United Kingdom (accept Northern Ireland). VAT is calculated at the time of order.  Northern Ireland recently adopted E.U regulations for GPSR which prevents me from shipping to Northern Ireland. See below.

Why I Don’t Ship to the E.U.

I ceased shipping to EU countries when GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation) was fully implemented in December 2024.

This regulation requires all businesses, including small businesses, like mine, to register a physical representative, add extra labeling, and maintain costly compliance paperwork in order to sell and ship products to countries within the European Union.

For now, it’s not practical for me as a handmade business. This also includes Northern Ireland which is not part of the EU, but adopted EU trade regulations.

For All Customers (including U.S. Customers)

Tariffs have been implemented for imports from many overseas countries ranging from 10 - 50%, and are changing frequently.  Many of my supplies such as beads, crystals, findings, and other materials I use are manufactured overseas.

There are many supplies I use that are just not manufactured here in the US.   When tariffs drive up my supply costs, I eventually have to adjust my prices. It pains me to do so, but I’ll always be upfront if changes need to happen, but I want you to know why.

Looking Ahead

Tariffs and regulations are always evolving, but my goal remains the same: to bring you handmade jewelry and hair accessories with transparency, fairness, and love.

Let’s not let these challenges dampen our spirits - may art continue to prosper! Thank you for supporting my work; it truly means the world to me. 💜

As the situation evolves I will come back to this post to update you with any new changes.
